Annual Skateboarding Issue 1

This film is documenting a series of performances, at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, Institute of Contemporary Art of Singapore and Sainte-Croix Museum in Poitiers.

The project originated with Carhartt WIP approaching Isle skateboards to work on a collaborative collection. ISLE, which started in 2013, has always prided itself on artist led conceptually driven ideas. Carhartt WIP and ISLE could think of no one better than artist and fellow skateboarder, Raphaël Zarka. When they approached Zarka, he had been researching the work of 19th Century mathematician Arthur Moritz Schoenflies. Schoenflies – a master of geometry and crystallography – had developed his own three dimensional models that specifically captivated Zarka’s attention, inspired with their sculptural potential. The film invites you to view Zarka’s large scale reconstructions of Schoenflies’ models re-appropriated in a way never imagined before.

Carhartt WIP Radio December 2019: Knekelhuis Radio Show | Carhartt WIP

Carhartt WIP – Listen back to all Carhartt Radio WIP shows: https://soundcloud.com/carharttwip Knekelhuis: Enter the world of Knekelhuis. One of the Netherland’s freshest contemporary labels, its offering is vast and varied: 1980s coldwave, modern ambient poetry, synthpop, techno, house, EBM, Punk, Krautrock, and left-field electro all feature. But equally, its founder, the DJ and producer Mark Knekelhuis, has formed the imprint into something remarkably cohesive and crafted, despite its esoteric leanings. Launched in 2014, Knekelhuis has reissued Dutch wave rarities, as well as championing the likes of Belgian spoken word artist Victor de Roo, experimental, industrial Beijing duo of Zaliva-D and highlighting the modern French synth-pop stylings of Eye. For this month’s Carhartt WIP Radio show the Knekelhuis head-honcho presents a haunting, multi-faceted journey, featuring both the aforementioned artists and work from the likes of Berlin’s Philipp Otterbach and the mysterious punk-not-punk quartet Jean-Luc. To accompany the mix, we sat down with this month’s host, who told us that a successful label doesn’t always needs a masterplan. Check the full feature at carhartt-wip.com/music. Carhartt WIP Radio: Trent Evans – PASS~PORT Special | Carhartt W…

Carhartt WIP – Listen back to all Carhartt Radio WIP shows: https://soundcloud.com/carharttwip PASS~PORT / Trent Evans: For Spring/Summer 2019, Carhartt WIP has partnered with Australian skate brand PASS~PORT on an exclusive collection, comprised of twelve co-branded pieces as well as three skate decks. To coincide with this, we asked the brand’s founder, Trent Evans, to conduct a Carhartt WIP Radio special. Much like the collaborative collection, which took inspiration from Australia’s Northern Territory, Evans’ approach to this mix drew heavily from the music of his homeland. The resulting selection is diverse in its sound, with music by the likes of tropical drum machine wizard Document Swell, twisted house seducer Andras, Neo-New-Waver Kirkis from Melbourne, and industrial darkwaver Buzz Kull from Sydney. Their music is intermingled with rock and post-punk infused songs by bands like Display Homes and Low Life. To accompany the Carhartt WIP Radio PASS~PORT special by Trent Evans, we called him up Down Under and had a little chat with him about the tunes he selected and how sound in general influences his creative output. Make sure to check out the full Trent Evans interview on our Carhartt WIP website and enjoy the music. Tracklist: 1. Document Swell: OOOT 2. Andras presents… House of Dad: Hard Working Man 3.
