Celebrate the life of the legendary Trent Riley with Treasury.

Trent had the curtain closing part in Treasury, a Brisbane video that premiered on March 19 at Parliament Skate Shop. The part speaks for itself – a testament to Trent’s natural talent, work ethic and humble nature. Trent’s wild Natas spin at an iconic Brissy spot also earned him the cover of our 2021 Autumn Edition.

In circumstances that no one could have predicted, Trent Riley went missing less than a month later while fishing alone off the Port of Brisbane in his little boat, ‘Lydia’. His family and friends, along with the Queensland Water Police and countless other volunteers, conducted a huge search effort, but two weeks later, Trent was still missing and the search was called off. Since then, tributes flooded social media.

The disappearance of Trent Riley has left a massive hole in the Australian skateboarding community, but through his part from Treasury, and a tribute in our next issue, we continue to celebrate the life of a legend.

ALEX LAWTON – SLAM SOTY | 2018 | Slam Skateboarding Magazine

Slam Skateboarding Magazine – We’ve been getting nostalgic lately, going back through the archives and remembering our previous Australian SOTYs on a Throwback Thursday. This week, we’re throwing it back to the glory of Alex Lawton, who took out the award in 2018. The now Poolroom pro spent much of his lead up year to SOTY travelling and filming, hitting spots from Barcelona to Manila to Melbourne. He initially went pro for Element in December 2017, copping a pro board surprise at a Melbourne bar, and a few months later won SOTY. Re-live some of the glory below. Filmed by Leigh Bolton, Chris Ray, James James, Jake Ledger, Dave Hoang, Ryan Lee, Massimo Leggittimo and Martin Forbes.

JACK O’GRADY – SLAM SOTY | 2019 | Slam Skateboarding Magazine

Slam Skateboarding Magazine – We’ve been getting nostalgic lately, going back through the archives and remembering our previous Australian SOTYs and sharing their videos on a Throwback Thursday. This week, we’re shining a light on Pass~Port’s newest pro, Jack O’Grady, who pulled the trigger and took out our SOTY award back in 2019. The road to Slam SOTY was a wild one for Squish, who, in the pre-COVID world, travelled to Greece, China, New Zealand, The USA and all over Australia, stacking clips like a madman. Now with a heavy pro part, a pro board, and two covers each with Slam and Thrasher under his belt, Squish hasn’t stopped for a minute, but his SOTY part from 2019 still looks pretty damn good on his resume. Filmed by Geoff Campbell, George Kousoulis, Brendan Gardoll, Chris Middlebrook, Matt Mullen, Dane Burman, Cody Riley and Cameron Sparkes. Edited by Geoff Campbell.
